Tyler the Creator Shows Off His New Chromakopia Tour Apparel

With the release of his sixth studio album, Tyler the Creator proved that he’s not only one to watch in modern hip-hop, but is also ready to take on the stadium tour circuit. The Los Angeles rapper has been able to find a way to balance his old favorites with the more introspective new tunes from his latest project, Chromakopia.

Tyler the Creator tour apparel the stage on Tuesday night in St. Paul, the 33-year-old drew a sold-out crowd at Xcel Energy Center that felt more like a rock show than an arena concert. The former Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All member rolled out his new look in the form of a fashionable green general’s suit, complemented by a brown mask that covered most of his face. His new choreography, meanwhile, took on the form of military-style moves, as Tyler marched around his makeshift stage (a shipping crate outfitted with a dope piano).

The rest of the set was comprised of tracks from his new record and other hits. With a backdrop that featured the same curtain-shaped screens used in his “Earfquake” music video, Tyler started out with the high-energy single and got the audience to sing along. He’d then switch to a slower-paced song, getting the crowd to shout out his adlibs during the instrumental breakdown and spitting a freestyle verse over it.

After a couple more new songs, Tyler would bring out his mic stand for the up-tempo “What’s Good,” which he performed standing still. The crowd would clap and sing along, and a large screen behind him featured images of army-style uniforms, in reference to the song’s lyrics about going to war for love.
